The Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) Training Centre attracts students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, and their career goals are equally diverse. Our students have gained employment in industry sectors ranging from general, commercial, and missions aviation, to air force and search and rescue operations. "I graduated from MAF, and I'm now working as a pilot in general aviation.
"I did the CPL/MEIR course, which I would highly recommend. It's a lot quicker, and especially with the shortage out there at the moment, you're going to have a job. So yeah, get in there and get it done I reckon.
"The biggest difference would be the amount of experience I've had through the instructors. I'm learning off pilots that have flown the line as line pilots, for their whole career, so you're just surrounded by thousand-hour pilots.
"I'd recommend MAF just because it's a high intensity course, but it's a bit slower, a bit more care is taken… they're very much raising you to be a pilot."

The MAF Training Centre is set up to take you on whichever path it is that you want to be going on. The training that you do here sets you up and gets you ready for commercial-standard operations, whether it be missionary, whether it be the airlines, or whether you want to stay in general aviation.
My experience with Mareeba has been nothing short of amazing. The standard is really high, and the training that's provided backs up everything I've learned in university.

I completed my PPL, CPL, and MEIR at the MAF Training Centre and now work as a pilot in Arnhem Land.
I liked how the program was designed, offering diverse flight experiences like camping trips, night VFR, multi-engine IFR at night, and a 10-day safari across Australia—far more enriching than simply logging hours for the flight test.
I highly recommend this training centre: the course had a well-balanced intensity suited to full-time learning, while still allowing some flexibility. The instructors were supportive, approachable, and committed to helping us succeed. The encouraging learning environment made a real difference.
